A Regional Rock Institution, Rebuilt for the Modern Web
A ground-up redesign and custom WordPress rebuild for one of the region's longest-running rock music portals — engineered by G2F Design for speed, modern standards, and effortless editorial workflows.
Since 2006, RockSerbia.net has been a fixture of the regional rock scene — a trusted home for news, reviews, interviews, and concert coverage, backed by nearly two decades of archived content and a loyal readership. But the platform carrying that legacy had aged: built on dated foundations, it had become slow, visually outdated, and increasingly difficult to maintain.
The site no longer met modern web standards. Pages loaded slowly, the reading experience felt dated on mobile, and the editorial team was stuck with a manual, time-consuming publishing workflow. G2F Design was brought in to fully modernize the platform — its design, performance, and usability — without sacrificing the deep content archive or the identity that made RockSerbia an institution.
Modernize a regional institution — without losing 18 years of archive or identity.
G2F Design redesigned and rebuilt RockSerbia.net from the ground up: a fast, modern, magazine-style platform with a bold editorial dark theme, clear content hierarchy, and a mobile-first reading experience — purpose-built around how rock fans actually browse news, bands, reviews, and concerts.
Instead of reaching for an off-the-shelf theme, we engineered a custom WordPress architecture — lean, standards-compliant, and free of the bloat that slows most templated sites. We paired the front-end rebuild with a suite of custom background scripts that automate the heavy editorial lifting — gathering, formatting, and cataloguing content — so the site stays continuously fresh with minimal manual effort and no performance penalty. Throughout, we preserved the legacy archive and the SEO equity built over 18+ years.
Discovery — Audited the legacy site, content archive, and admin pain points; defined modern standards, performance targets, and editorial-workflow goals.
Design — Designed a magazine-style, mobile-first dark UI; established the layout system, typography, and components for news, bands, reviews, and concerts.
Development — Built a custom WordPress theme (no page builders) plus the automation scripts that run editorial operations in the background.
Testing — Cross-device and responsive QA, performance tuning, archive-migration checks, and a controlled launch.
The rebuilt RockSerbia.net is dramatically faster, fully modern, and far easier to run — for readers and editors alike:
• Faster, lighter site — a custom-coded architecture replaced the bloated legacy stack, cutting load times.
• Modern, mobile-first UX — a clean editorial reading experience that meets current web standards on every device.
• Automated editorial workflows — custom background scripts handle data and routine publishing tasks, keeping the site current without slowing it down or burdening the team.
• Preserved legacy — the full ~18-year archive and its SEO equity carried over intact.
• Easier administration — a simpler, more intuitive back end for the editorial team.

Custom architecture over a page builder. We hand-built the theme instead of using a templated or page-builder stack. The trade-off was more up-front engineering; the payoff is a genuinely fast, lean site with full control and zero plugin bloat.
Automation instead of manual work. We invested in custom background scripts to automate content and data operations. More complex to build — but it keeps the platform continuously updated with minimal effort, and because it runs server-side in the background, it never costs page speed.
Preserve, don't restart. Rather than wipe and rebuild, we migrated the entire legacy archive and its SEO value into the new platform — protecting nearly two decades of equity at the cost of careful migration work.
